Since January 2014 the GEM group, or GEMlab, in the Department of Physical Oceanography of the Oceanology Division at the Center of Scientific Research and Higher Education in Ensenada (CICESE), carries out research in various topics evolving around fluid mechanics in the context of geophysical and environmental problems. Examples include the analysis of tidal flows and their potential for energy extraction, models of the atmosphere and enhanced weather prediction capabilities. For a more comprehensive overview please see the list of projects on the left.

Ample opportunities for postgraduate students exists at the Masters and Ph.D. level. Please contact any of the investigators for more information.

This site was created and maintained by Dr. Markus Gross until his untimely passing on the 25th of January 2022. Dr. Vanesa Magar is the current website administrator. We honour the mission of GEMlab as envisioned by Dr Gross:

Curiosity-Driven Research

We also work in operational research and development, and in strategic national projects with high social impact.
